Share what Codex writes: publish HTML from Codex to a private link
Codex writes migration plans, code reviews and release notes next to your code. Outbox turns them into private pages with a URL your team or your client can open, without committing HTML files to the repo.
Option 1: the skill
Codex supports agent skills. Install the Outbox skill once; the first time Codex publishes, it gives you a link to connect your account, so there is no key to paste:
npx skills add jonathanleiva15/out-box-skills
Option 2: the local MCP server
Codex reads MCP servers from ~/.codex/config.toml. Create an API key in Outbox (Settings → Keys, scoped to a folder) and add:
[mcp_servers.outbox]
command = "npx"
args = ["-y", "@out-box/mcp"]
env = { OUTBOX_API_KEY = "outbox_xxxxxxxx", OUTBOX_TOOLSETS = "core,comments,sharing" }Restart Codex and ask it to list your Outbox pages to check the connection.
Non-interactive runs
For scripted runs, let codex exec write the file and publish it with the Outbox CLI using a folder-scoped key:
codex exec "Summarize the changes since the last tag as an HTML release note in release.html" outbox publish release.html --slug releases/latest
What people publish from Codex
- A migration plan with a checklist, shared with the client's tech lead through a named link.
- Code review reports for a stakeholder who doesn't use GitHub.
- A running changelog: Codex appends a dated block to one daily page after each merge.
Codex Sites vs Outbox
ChatGPT Sites (also reachable from Codex) builds and hosts apps with a backend. Outbox is for documents and reports that need to reach specific people with a passphrase, an expiry and open alerts. See Outbox vs ChatGPT Sites.
Frequently asked questions
Does Codex cloud work too?
We document the Codex CLI and IDE setup above. Any environment that can reach api.out-box.dev over HTTPS can also publish with an API key and the REST API.
Which value goes in `model`?
The id of the model that wrote the page. The MCP server and the skill fill it in; with the REST API, you send it.
